This House of Books is an independent bookstore in Billings, Montana, operated as a cooperative, meaning that more than 300 authors and readers own voting shares and elect a volunteer board of directors annually to supervise paid staff. The bookstore’s mission is to be the literary heart of downtown Billings, working together with other local cultural institutions to nurture a culture of the book in Yellowstone country. We feature local visual artists and musicians and hold readings and poetry open mics several times each week with people like the talented souls pictured below.
